Sketching is a core theme for Spaces and allows for extremely quick and effective input. Sketching is incredibly powerful and we see huge potential in how to improve sketching and continually make it smarter.
The Drawing settings contains an option to Create items automatically. This is enabled by default, so when you start Spaces and draw a closed shape a Building will be created automatically.
With Create items automatically enabled you can further edit your Building with the Interactive sketch editor.
Automatic creation and interactive editing
The following video shows how a building is created automatically when drawing strokes. Following the creation of the building the building is updated interactively by continuing to draw strokes.
Selecting a level halfway up the building, constrains the editing to that level upwards as you can see later in the video:
Manual creation
While automatic creation is quick and easy, sometimes it is preferable to sketch the shape and not have the building created. This allows you to line up different aspects of the building, and then using a squiggle you can clean up the strokes to define the shape you want.
Once you have an outline you are happy with, you simply need to use your finger to tap inside the shape for your building to be created
These manual methods are also very useful with creating Zones and Surrounding buildings.
Clean up essential / Space creation
Note: in the above video we use the squiggle to ensure we have the exact shape we want. Codesign likes the solution to be unambiguous otherwise you may not end up with your desired results.
The reason behind this is that if there are multiple polygons, Codesign uses this to create a series of individual spaces that combine to make the building.
